For car driving, there are 3 types of driving licence. G1, G2 and G.
G1 and G2 licence have some restrictions. These Licences are for new drivers. If you have your a valid Driving licence more than 2 year old from any country, then you can directly get G licence. G licence is full licence, without any restrictions.
If you have Driving licence from India, Pakistan, Brazil, and your driving licence is older than 2 years. then you can get full G licence in very simple process. First you need to prepare for driving rules of Ontario, to learn rules of driving in Ontario download this pdf book. Read and understand the driving rules. And do some online practise tests
When you think that you have sufficient knowledge, then you need following documents.
- A valid identity
- Driving licence from your country (If it is not is english, then you need to translate it in English from a certified translator)
- A letter from your driving department or Embassy which describe that your drive licence is original and valid for drive in your country without any restriction
Bring these documents with you and go to drive test center in your area. If you are living in Brampton, Then nearest driving test center address is

There you show them your documents and pay fees, they will take your knowledge test. For give test there will be 2 part of exam with 20 each part questions. For pass exam you need to give at least 16 answer correct from each part. All questions will be objective. Means every question will have 4 answers showing. and you will choose which answer is correct. If you are not good in English, then you can ask them to give exam in another language, there are many languages available for exam.
After pass the exam, they will give you temporary G1 driving licence, And G1 licence with your photo will be sent at your home withing 1 month. After taking G1 temporary licence you can drive car in Ontario, but there are some restrictions. I will suggest you to go to any driving school and practise driving for G full licence. And when you fee that you can clear road test of G licence, then book a G road test.
If you do not know how to book road test, you can ask your driving school, they can book road test for you. On your test you need to bring a car for test. You driving school may arrange car for your road test. You will get only 1 chance for road test directly from G1 licence to G licence. If you fail then you need to give G2 road test and then G road test. So well prepare for your road test. After passing your road test they will give you temporary G licence, And G licence with your photo will be sent at your home withing 1 month. When you receive your new driving licence, then you can not use your old Canadian driving licence. It is crime to use old Canadian driving licence inside Canada. So make sure you destroy your old Canadian driving licence, each time you receive new driving licence for prevent getting in any trouble.
